The Silver Tech Boom: How AI is Empowering 50+ Innovators
Hello Friend,
Pattern’s are everywhere in life would you agree? Here’s a one I saw this week:
I saw this walking by the sea near the bandstand, circles under rainbows…
And of course, we have much bigger patterns & trends going on in the world today, some of which are not well known or understood by most people, yet will shape all our lives in the future.
Let’s be honest, many people aren’t very interested in the future, right?
But are you? I am, I want to know whats coming so I can better prepare for it.
Here are some long term patterns not widely or well reported that will have a big impact on your future..
1. Population collapse
Despite the popular belief that over-population is a big problem (due to media mis-information) the opposite is actually true, populations and fertility rates are collapsing globally.
2. The Demographic Time Bomb
If you were thinking that maybe having less people in the world might be a good thing, using less resources, less pollution etc - think again.
What’s also important to consider is not only how many people we have in the world, but what the demographic composition is.
Modern economies rely on the population pyramid for survival.
A healthy population pyramid assumes you have a larger younger population and a smaller older population. Why? because older people cost governments more with more health and care costs, pensions and more.
This is all fine if you have a larger younger working population, which pay more taxes that can help fund the costs of a smaller older population.
So whats the problem? firstly as we saw, the world is having less babies (for a number of complex reasons) so we have a shrinking younger population to pay for the growing costs of an expanding older population.
On top of that older people are living longer (again for a number of reasons). So what does that mean?
To see whats coming for us, we need to look to Japan where this demographic shift happened first. This is how Japan’s population pyramid has changed:
What you can see here is how over time, the population pyramid has gradually turned upside down or inverted, they have a shrinking working younger population paying for a growing costly older population.
Why is that a problem? because its economically unsustainable, the shrinking tax base of less and less young people can’t pay for the increasing costs.
So what have governments been doing? basically not much, beyond going into increasingly huge debts worldwide, because they can’t afford to pay for the costs of public services for a growing older population from taxes alone.
And its unsustainable, it can’t go on.
This is the demographic time bomb, thats happening worldwide right now.
It’s also an absolute scandal and complete failure by the mainstream media for failing to report these important facts to the general public.
On top of these 2 big challenges, we also have a third.
3. The AI Revolution of Work
If you’re a regular reader of this newsletter then you will understand how AI is transforming business by doing tasks that only humans could previously do.
The honest facts are, AI is replacing human work rapidly, which I have reported regularly. But how much? some experts such as Kai-Fu Lee (former head of Google China) estimates that AI could replace 50% of jobs worldwide by 2027.
I think his predictions are likely to be quite accurate.
Why do I think this? because I see in my own work right now with my AI Automation Agency how much work can be done by AI Agents for businesses doing work tasks better, faster and cheaper than any human could do.
So these 3 big trends mean for the future, how do they effect each other?
While some things might be hard to predict, other things we can predict with a higher degree of certainty:
Our current economic models are broken
Our economic models based on the traditional population pyramids are currently failing.
We have a shrinking base of younger working people that are paying less and less to pay for more and more costs of a growing older population for healthcare, pensions etc.
Countries are going into debt & bankrupt to plug the gap but this unsustainable.
Radical new models are required. Could taxing AI replacing jobs be part of a solution? Universal Basic Income?
The traditional career and life path is dead
The classic career path - you get your education, enter your profession and work for life, then retire and enjoy your pension at a certain age, this is over.
AI is changing what human skills are needed rapidly, your initial education will be less and less useful, ongoing learning is not an optional ‘top up’ but essential for fundamental ongoing skills development.
Entry level positions for many skills and professions where young workers got their valuable initial experience have been the first to be replaced by AI already.
As larger businesses integrate more AI, job losses are increasing. As smaller businesses learn to grow using AI more effectively and cheaply than employing human workers, small businesses hire less humans. Unemployment accelerates.
When you finally reach retirement age and look forward to your promised government pension, you discover because the government can’t afford to pay them you don’t get what you were promised.
A popular government tactic has been to keep increasing the retirement age.
The pension and retirement you worked so hard for all your life and were promised at a certain age, will keep getting further, smaller, and harder to get.
So if this sounds pretty bleak, yes it is, but only if we don’t consider alternatives.
I can understand why some people don’t want to think about this future, its easier to just wish it would all go away, or not think about it.
But that won’t help you prepare for the future, and the whole reason I created this newsletter, and passionately want to do, is to help you best prepare for the future.
So is there a better way to deal with these challenges? Yes, there is.
We can create a new more economically sustainable model for our growing older populations and nations
We can create less dependancy on increasingly insecure human employment from businesses
We can create more independence and choice in our working lives
We can create more financial security for ourselves throughout our lives from youth into old age
We can have more enjoyable and creative working years long into old age
Sound too good to be true? I understand. But it’s possible and real. How do I know? because I’m going through this transformation right now myself, and its working for me, and it’s a path you could follow too.
The secret? It’s about using the power of AI to grow your own solo business.
This is why this week I’m sharing my guest post for in his publication Plus 50 Forward where I’ve explained how you could follow this path for yourself, especially if your 50+, had a career, but are worried about this future.
But honestly, this post is for anyone who wants to prepare for the AI age and thrive, despite AI job replacement & insecure employment, population collapse, demographic time bombs, and unreliable retirements and pensions from governments.
In this post I’ve shared with you the very best of my expertise & knowledge to help you adjust to this new future. I know letting go of the traditional career & life path may be hard, you may not want to, I get that.
But let me empower you at least with some knowledge and a radically new mindset, that could help you adjust to these difficult and challenging world changes that are coming for all of us.
Wherever you are - I wish you the best this week, and for your future.
Take care,
Pranath
