Thanks for this. I started using Claude a month or so ago and have been astounded at how it has helped me with various tasks, including evaluating my writing. I don't know if it showed metacognition, but it certainly has felt like reasoning to me on several occasions. Time will tell what this all means.

Exactly!

These are intriguing signs but its too soon to be conclusive.

Nevertheless we should keep observing what its doing and how its doing it.

The only way discoveries are made are by people being observant after all.

As the AI is trained with texts that also talk about those kind of tests isn't it just guessing based on learned data? There are articles about that test in the context of MMLs old as 2021.

I believe it’s valuable to distinguish between guesses and evidence based facts.

It’s possible, but so are many things.

If you can’t prove or evidence that - is it helpful to speculate would be my question?

I can understand your feelings and perspective on this. However, both scientifically and legally - the burden of proof is normally on the people who make the accusations & claims.

Most courts and legal systems and recent judgements in several countries have taken a different approach to what you suggest.
