Make is the leading platform that helps businesses use AI & automation to solve practical business problems at scale.
In this guide, I'll show you how to create an automation in Make to log weather data into a Google sheet.
While simple, this task teaches you essential skills you can then go on to create more powerful automation for your business, including using AI.
We will cover:
Building a Weather Logger Automation
Creating the Trigger: Weather Module
Creating the Action: Google Sheets Module

This is an advanced guide. If you are new to using automation & AI, I'd suggest trying one of my free beginner AI courses first such as:
Building a Weather Logger Automation
In the previous guide, we covered the essential features and settings in Make that you need to know to start building automations.
Now, we will start building them!
We will build a simple automation to create an automatic weather logger.
This logger will collect weather data and then log that into a Google Sheet.
This example will show you how easy it is to get started building automation, which helps you get tasks done automatically for you in your work or business.
Two key concepts you'll need to learn are triggers and actions.
Triggers are things that start automation, including getting data in our case.
Actions, are things that happen after a trigger, for example in our case writing weather data to a Google sheet.
Despite being a relatively simple automation, you'll practise skills here that will help you build more powerful automation later that could include:
Automated Invoicing - Create a workflow that generates and sends invoices automatically after job completion:
Trigger: Job completion form submission
Actions: Generate invoice, convert to PDF, email to customer
Staff Scheduling - Develop an automation to manage and communicate staff schedules:
Trigger: New schedule entry in a spreadsheet
Actions: Create calendar events, and send personalised schedules to staff via email or SMS
Customer Database Management Set up an automation to maintain an up-to-date customer database:
Trigger: New customer form submission
Actions: Add a customer to the database, create a customer profile, send a welcome email
Quote Generation Implement a system for quick and accurate quote generation:
Trigger: Quote request form submission
Actions: Calculate price based on service type and property size, generate quote, send to customer
Appointment Reminders Create an automation to send reminders to customers before scheduled appointments:
Trigger: Upcoming appointment (e.g., 24 hours before)
Actions: Retrieve appointment details, send personalised reminders via email or SMS
These more complex automations could significantly streamline operations for your business, improving efficiency and customer service while reducing manual work and potential mistakes.
But to get there, you need to take the first step - so let's get started and build our weather logger automation.
